The City of Alpena has been awarded a $37,500 state grant to improve coastal habitats and address stormwater runoff at two waterfront parks through community-driven collaboration with Huron Pines, advancing key priorities identified in the city's Lake Huron Forever Pledge Road Map.

Charter Township of Oscoda is the latest Michigan community to take the Lake Huron Forever Pledge, committing to protect Lake Huron’s water quality, preserving natural areas and engaging community members in conservation.

A 42-acre forested tract along the Au Sable River is under permanent protection following its acquisition Dec 5, 2023 by Huron Pines. Hull Island has high conservation value & great potential for recreation, and Huron Pines will transfer the property to Oscoda Township in 2024 as a public preserve.

A rain garden at Harrisville Harbor is helping protect the water quality of Lake Huron while serving as a teaching tool for students, a showpiece for stormwater management and a testament to community-driven conservation.

Chosen as a priority by the community of Alpena, a project to restore a natural dune shoreline at Mich-e-ke-wis Park is underway. Once established, these dunes will help protect the water quality of Lake Huron and be more resilient to high water, erosion and other climate-related events.

Bay City is committing to the protection of Lake Huron’s water quality by curbing stormwater runoff, planting trees and improving natural areas while inspiring community members to take action. The Bay City Commission adopted a resolution at its meeting November 7 to take the Lake Huron Forever Pledge.
