ABOUT US

The Lake Huron Forever initiative was developed in 2019 by shoreline community foundations and conservation partners from the United States and Canada to advance water quality protection and healthy, sustainable communities on both sides of the lake. The Lake Huron Forever initiative aims to support community conversation and collaboration in the design and implementation of on-the-ground work to strengthen the health and well-being of residents as well as natural resources.

Protecting water quality, ensuring the diversity of plant and animal life, and supporting communities across the region means committing to the long-term protection of Lake Huron. In the coming years, they will strive to engage communities and activate collaboration and partnerships to sustain a healthy Lake Huron through the Lake Huron Forever initiative.

Now is the time to take action. Forever starts today.

OUR HISTORY

Lake Huron Forever was first conceived through a basin-wide effort called the Great Lakes One Water Partnership, initiated by the Council for Michigan Foundation and funded through the Great Lakes Protection Fund.

In order to address regional challenges and solutions, 28 place-based foundations came forward to create six regional teams covering all of the Great Lakes (two for Lake Michigan). From this foundation, the Lake Huron Forever initiative was born and formally adopted in 2019.

OUR LOGO

The Lake Huron Forever logo, created in 2019, represents both the individuality and wholeness of our partnership. The circle represents both the unity of the Lake Huron Forever team and the team’s vision to have a permanent positive effect on Lake Huron. The pebbles and islands represent Lake Huron’s rocky shoreline and 30,000 islands. The two suns with rays (upper right, lower left) represent the different perspectives of the Canadian and American teams — the Americans see the sunrise over Lake Huron and the Canadians see the sunset over Lake Huron. There is also a canoe shaped rock at the bottom of the circle representing the human element — the recreation, enjoyment and inspiration the lake provides.
