The Coastal Leadership Academy Scenario-Based Planning workshop is a free training that introduces scenario-based planning, resilient zoning policies, and data tools that can be used to address challenges specific to coastal communities. Scenario-based planning is a framework that allows communities to engage in creative visioning for the future given different uncertainties. This tool provides an array of reasonable potential futures around which the community can plan, allowing for adaptive, resilient planning. This workshop introduces participants to scenario-based planning and other resilient principles that can be incorporated into community planning documents. Content is based on the MCMP Resilient Coastal Communities Planning Guide and Building Coastal Resilience video series, found on our Resilient Coast website.
The workshop is structured for community decision-makers who are interested in planning for coastal resilience in their municipality or region. Elected officials, planning and zoning staff, community planners, and/or other key community leaders are invited to participate. We invite you to participate individually or attend with a group of your fellow community members.
Anyone interested in attending can reach out to Aaron Arend (ArendA@michigan.gov) and/or Bill Ernat, with the East Michigan Council of Governments, who will be hosting, at bernat@emcog.org.
