ALPENA DUCK PARK

Address: Intersection of West Chisholm Street and Long Rapids Road

Duck Park adjoins Island Park and the Wildlife Sanctuary. This park has 1,200 feet of Thunder Bay River frontage. It complements the natural setting of Island Park by offering an area for more developed recreational uses and vehicular parking. It is also the proposed site of the River Center and adjoining boardwalk from which a range of recreational and educational activities related to the river area can be provided. The site includes picnic tables, an area for rest, as well as off-street parking.

ALPENA TOWNSHIP NATURE PRESERVE

Address: 8142 Misery Bay Rd., Alpena MI 49707

Located on Misery Bay, this 133-acre tract has 9,632 feet of Lake Huron shoreline with coastal marshes, fens, old-growth northern white cedar forests, karst features and rare plants. See carnivorous pitcher plants and Michigan’s state wildflower, the dwarf lake iris, and visit El Cajon Bay and its two sinkholes. This site is a great place to see all the unique habitats and species the Lake Huron shoreline has to offer.

HURON PINES EMILY MIN HUNT PRESERVE

Address: Shubert Highway, Alpena MI 49707

Located between Rogers City and Alpena, this 428-acre preserve offers the perfect spot for quiet nature exploration. Just off of Shubert Highway across from Long Lake, the mixed hardwood forest is home to what was once a working apple orchard. The former orchard provides open grassland habitat for birds and other wildlife. The preserve offers opportunities to enhance and manage habitat for diverse plants and wildlife, making it a place for the public to learn first-hand about stewardship best practices and land management. HURON PINES HUBBARD LAKE PRESERVE

Address: 720 Holiday Inn Rd., Hubbard Lake MI 49747

The Hubbard Lake Nature Preserve was donated to Huron Pines in the summer of 2018. The 80-acre wooded property includes a mile and half of trails for hiking and wildlife viewing and provides year-round recreational opportunities to local residents and visitors. See landforms created by glaciers, listen to a wide range of forest birds and experience the beauty of the red pine forest. Learn more about the preserve here.
